In the near future, the Montgomery County Roads and Bridges Department will perform a complete reconstruction of Ridge Pike from the Norristown Borough line to the Philadelphia City line at Northwestern Avenue. This long term project will involve full depth reconstruction and widening of the roadway in Plymouth, Whitemarsh and Springfield Townships. Because of the large scale of the work, the project consists of two separate phases.
Phase I of the project involves the section of Ridge Pike from Butler Pike to Northwestern Avenue, in Whitemarsh and Springfield Townships. Section 1, from Church Road to Northwestern Avenue, involves widening the road to two lanes in each direction along with turning lanes. Section 2, from Butler Pike to Church Road, will also include road widening at all signaled intersections in order to accommodate left turn lanes. Phase I is estimated to be under construction from 2010 to 2012.
Phase II will cover Ridge Pike in Plymouth Township, from the Norristown Borough line to Butler Pike. Section 1, from School Lane to Regal Plaza, will involve the widening of three bridges and installation of a center turn lane. Section 2, from Regal Plaza to Butler Pike, will also be widened to allow for a center turn lane. Phase II is scheduled for construction from 2012 to 2014.
